I upgraded my Platinum 7.4b2 up to the latest PNP.Im seeing something really weird with the .htaccess.

My old site had a very larget .htaccess file in docroot. I have 2400+ networks of known hackers/spammers that I used to maintain. I wanted to drop this down and just let sentinel do its thing.

If I modify a single character and save the file, the entire site shuts down.

Is there something in the newer version of sentinet that locks the .htaccess and prevents manual edits?

Thanks!

Not that I'm aware of. It could be the permissions on the file or the editor you are using. Are you editing it directly on the server or on your computer and uploading it?

Permissions are same, ownership and perms as .staccess, .ftaccess and all other files in the directory. Sentinel can edit the .staccess and you have to add the .htaccess file in as a config item in Sentinel. Im betting it is monitoring it.

I went into Sentinel, removed the definition of the location of my .htaccess. Saved. Stopped and restarted webserver. Moved .htaccess to .htaccess.org, edited .htaccess to look as follows:

Code:
##PHP_FLAG output_buffering on
##RewriteEngine on
##RewriteOptions MaxRedirects=10
# -------------------------------------------
# Start of NukeSentinel(tm) admin.php Auth
# -------------------------------------------
<Files .staccess>
deny from all
</Files>

<Files admin.php>
<Limit GET POST PUT>
require valid-user
</Limit>
AuthName "Restricted by NukeSentinel(tm)"
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /path/to/.staccess
</Files>
# -------------------------------------------
# End of NukeSentinel(tm) admin.php Auth
# -------------------------------------------

# ls -la .htaccess
-rwxr-xr-x 1 userid gid 570 Sep 29 02:34 .htaccess

I then went back into sentinel and reapplied location to .htaccess and saved. No issues. I also restarted webserver and no issues.
So Sentinel now watches .htaccess and if you have a .htaccess in your DOCROOT, even if it is not configured in Sentinel, Sentinel will freak out if you modify it. You have to remove the definition from Sentinel to manually modify the .htaccess file.

Thanks!
Eric

Hi Pedro.
I agree Im working too hard. I build my own server. Ive been using Linux since 1991. Ive been running my own hosts/sites that long. Ive been running phpNuke since 2004.

I had a Centos 5 32bit server runing Platinum 7.6.4b2.. Upgraded the hardware/OS to Centos 6 64bit. With that came php5 which brought an upgrade to Platinum 7.5, 7.5b2, PNP 1.0 and 1.0.1.

Until about an hour ago, I was running apache mpm.itk (which allowed me to run multiple servers under different users and groups). I found out I would have to run php.cgi to make things work and I felt that was going to lead to even more problems so I am now back to plane vanilla APache running as user.group apache.apache. I have chmod -R 755 * in my DOCROOT and I have chown -R apache.apache *.

Ill summarize: Im a very experience Linux, Apache, MySQL and phpNuke administrator.

I am finding a lot of problems in the Platinum Nuke Pro base configuration and in the default and ported Themes. I don't have a problem reporting them/fixing them, but please understand my level of knowledge and experience.

Thanks!
Eric
